2010 goals

Happy New Year all!

It is a time for reflection and self improvement, and that's awesome.  I've already lined out some goals on my other blogs, but I would like to list out some goals that are a bit more personal here. There are some goals that can't be discussed publicly quite yet, but the others I will list here.
  1. Sleep. During school it was necessary to not sleep much. Then while studying for the CPA exam it continued. No more! 10 pm is the goal now.
  2. Music. Record a new song every 2 months. Back in the day I wrote and recorded a CD, played live, etc. It's gotten away from me, but I want to start again. Whether I'm doing the playing, or my talented wife. I want it to be saved for posterity. I want my kids to know that they should be proud of the talents they develop and that they should share those talents with others.
  3. Family/Church. Sundays will be officially unplugged. I will not touch a computer except to carry out church duties and even then only limit to one hour. The iPhone will remain docked and not in my hands, and quality time will be spent with the family. :)

Apologies

Recently there have been two stories in the news that have really gotten under my skin.

The first irk started when Republican Congressman Joe Wilson shouted during President Obama's health care speech, "You lie!" I have no doubt that Mr. Wilson disagreed with the President. He probably even felt strongly about his opinions. But what made him think it was okay to call out his boss like that. And in public. And on national television. What gets me was that he wasn't the only one voicing an opinion. Democrats got their feelings hurt and demanded an apology. Joe Wilson did so, of course, but it was no more than the typical, "I meant it, but I didn't mean to say it like that."

Incident number two involved Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson and his description of the Republican version of the health care plan. He said, “If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly. That’s right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick.” And of course, the Republicans demanded an apology.

First, let me say, that if I attempted anything like the two individuals above did at my current job, I would be fired. It would be done quietly, not many people would know why, but I would be gone.

Second, on behalf of all Americans, can I request an apology from all those in Congress? Can we put aside the "He said, She said" nonsense, put aside what party you belong to, and just get to work making this country great. Everyone has a different opinion. But you were elected to make this country a better place and to help those in need of help.

CPA exam ... I win!

It's been a long 2 years, but I have finally passed all the sections of the CPA exam. (big sigh of relief.) In the words of my daughter "When daddy pass his test, then he play with me!" Yes, E, I will play with you.

(double post warning - for those of you, my wife, who subscribe to both of my blogs you will see this twice)

Welcome!

Well... I've finally done it. I've started a blog. I've been mulling this over for quite some time and here it is.

What will I be talking about? That's an excellent question. Initially I'll be walking through my training for a triathlon next June. I'll eventually branch out into posts on Excel development, my latest music likes and creations, and a post here and there about other happenings.
